If you enjoy eating mochi but don't have access to it, here's something you can make at home.
Ingredients
glutinous rice flour (1-2 cups)
water
chocolate pieces
desiccated coconut (1 cup)
Ok, so it isn't exactly mochi, but it's pretty close. The difference is that you won't be pounding the dough here like you're supposed to. But you can if you want to.
Procedure
Make a dough using water and glutinous rice flour. Slowly add water until the consistency is like the one in the video.
Make little balls and then flatten them.
Put a piece of chocolate into the middle and then close it up.
Boil a pot of water and submerge the balls. When they start floating, it means it's cooked. If you've filled it with too many chocolate pieces, it might not float completely but the surface should come off the bottom of the pot.
Remove the floating balls with a strainer and roll it around in a bowl of desiccated coconut. You can also use sesame seeds or confectioners' sugar if you're a sweet tooth.
Enjoy!
Kiddos love this!!
